7-9th March 2008 .Botanic Park. Adelaide.

Mavis Staples .

Friday 10:45pm Stage One .

Best set of the festival without a doubt ! Ms Staples really blew the top off all assembled with an immensely funky band, a voice that would make Tom Waits and Cap'n Beefheart look like wimps and a setlist that featured some of the best songs of the 20th century. 50 minutes of this nearly 90 minute set were broadcast on Radio National but the soundboard was not well mixed (the band sounding anaemic and backing vocals way down in the mix ) and it just did not convey the power and intensity of this band, who were sent from heaven to entertain us.

Mavis had problems pronouncing Womadelaide, so she just ended calling us lemonade instead ..... no one complained .

Definitely one of the best gigs of my life, even better than James Brown in his heyday ......

Setlist

For What It’s Worth, Eyes on the Prize, Down in Mississippi, Trouble The Water ,The Weight, Waiting For My Child, Respect Yourself, I’ll Take You There, March on Freedoms Highway, (AM broadcast )

Possible other songs played

Little Light, Jesus is on the Mainline, Why (Am I Treated So Bad?)

can anyone fill the gaps ?
